The invention relates generally to nanocomposites, and more specifically to synthesis of iron-oxide nanocomposites. Nanocomposites are known and are used in various applications. For example, they are recently being used in biomedical industry such as for controlled release of therapeutic agents or drugs. In particular, iron oxide nanoparticles may be utilized for biomedical applications because of their magnetic properties and biocompatibility. Such nanoparticles may serve as a carrier for drug delivery, as a label for bio-separation and as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), among other applications. Typically, drug from nanocomposites is released under uncontrollable or poorly designed pattern after administration. As a result, the therapeutic efficacy is not as expected thereby increasing the cost of therapeutic practice. Therefore, there is a need for a drug carrier nanocomposite where the drug release can be effectively controlled and a high drug encapsulating efficiency can be achieved.
According to the present invention, a nanocomposite is provided. The nanocomposite includes a nanoparticle layer and an iron oxide layer encapsulating the nanoparticle layer to form the nanocomposite.
