Aliphatic polymers based on ester, urethane and amide linkages have been used extensively for various biomedical applications which required biocompatibility or biodegradability Most known synthetic strategies for polyesters are not necessarily appropriate for synthesis of functional biopolymers with built-in flexibility. The present invention is related to novel malonic acid based functional monomers of the formula I and functional polymers (linear of the formula II and branched of the formula III). Further the invention provides synthesis of these materials.
