About the project: The material models developed as a part of the ongoing DST-RFBR projects, together with the
frictional conditions measured could be used to calculate the contact pressure at the tool-work
interface. The theory developed by Alexandrov et. al can be extended to predict the interfacial
behaviour of the mixture in contact with the tool surfaces.
In particular, the asymptotic representation of solution behavior in the vicinity of frictional
interfaces will be obtained for the constitutive equations developed with the use of experimental
data generated in course of the ongoing DST-RFBR project. A number of benchmark boundary
value problems will be formulated and solved to verify the general theory and to reveal possible
effects of process conditions on the evolution of material properties in a narrow layer near
The mechanical behaviour studied in the present RFBR project will be used to predict the
condition of the tool-workpiece interface. These predictions will be verified using experiments
involving processes like deep drawing where extensive tool-workpiece interfacial contact is
involved. The surfaces will be inspected using the optical microscope and the SEM so as to
validate the predictions.

Theoretical research on temperature effects will focus on the exension of the method for
calculating the distribution of temperature proposed by the Russian team for some metal forming
processes to deformation processes for polymer-metal powder mixtures. A distinguished feature
of the processes that can be treated by this method is that the heat conduction equation in
Lagrangian coordinates reduces to one of its standard forms such that Green?s function is known.
Therefore, a very accurate numerical method can be developed for calculating the field of
temperature, including the very vicinity of frictional interfaces

The job includes designing and manufacturing of tools to make sheets of various thicknesses by Metal Injection moulding and tools for hot forming of sheet metal. Awareness of the methods of characterisation of mechanical properties of sheet metal, formability, surface roughness and tool-workpiece interface will be necessary.
