Nutraceutical with antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties
Prof Rinti Banerjee's group at IIT Bombay have developed a nutraceutical drink and phytopharmaceutical based on natural flavouring and spice bioactives with antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties (patent filed). All constituents are FSSAI approved and includes approved permeation enhancers for improved absorption. The actives have a surfactant like action and degrade the outer lipid envelope of many enveloped viruses, thus deactivating them. The nutraceutical holds promise in early stages of COVID-19 infections. Further, validation with patient swabs is ongoing. Clinical trials are planned after GMP manufacturing. Partnerships for GMP manufacturing and clinical trials are sought.
